ELISA Basic Course

Content & Learning Objective

In this course, you will learn the theory and practice of ELISA techniques, from sample preparation and processing of multiwell plates to computerised evaluation and quality control of the results.

The theoretical part covers:

  • ELISA basics
  • Sample material and sample preparation
  • ELISA components: choice of antibodies, plastic ware, coating, standards, etc.
  • Standards and controls
  • Quality parameters: detection limit, accuracy, reproducibility, linearity, recovery
  • Evaluation of data and quality control
  • Trouble shooting

The practical part covers:

  • Performance of a Sandwich-ELISA
  • Performance of a competitive ELISA

Target Group

Technical and scientific staff members, who are interested in establishing and using the ELISA technique in the laboratory.

Teacher

Dr. Peter Schröder studied biology at the Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf and received his doctorate at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, on the „Impact of a natural antioxidant against oxidative and nitrosative stress.“ After stays in Milwaukee and Stockholm, he continued as a research associate at the Institute of Environmental Medicine at the Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf. There he worked as part of a research group focussing on the role of oxidative stress in signaling processes that lead to premature aging, with particular attention to the effects of non-ionizing radiation (UV, IR) and the development of novel prevention strategies. Since 2011, Dr. Schröder has been working as a freelance lecturer, coach and consultant.
