ELISA Basic Course

Content & Learning Objective

In this course, you will learn the theory and practice of ELISA techniques, from sample preparation and processing of multiwell plates to computeraided evaluation and quality control of the results.

The theoretical part covers:

  • ELISA basics
  • Sample material and sample preparation
  • ELISA components: choice of antibodies, plastic ware, coating, standards, etc.
  • Standards and controls
  • Quality parameters: detection limit, accuracy, reproducibility, linearity, recovery
  • Evaluation of data and quality control
  • Trouble shooting

The practical part covers:

  • Performance of a Sandwich-ELISA
  • Performance of a competitive ELISA

Target Group

Technical and scientific staff members, who are interested in establishing and using the ELISA technique in the laboratory.

Teacher

Dr. Andrea Schrödel’s studies led her to initially become a Biological Lab Technician and thereafter to obtain a Biotechnology degree in Mannheim.  Following this, she pursued her diploma thesis at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, and received her PhD from the Clinical Cooperation of Gastroenterological Oncology (Clinical Center Mannheim and German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg) for her work on SMAD4 and angiogenesis in pancreatic carcinoma.
